<div style="height:50px" aria-hidden="true" id="Klipsch-R-15M" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Klipsch R-15M</h3>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"><a data-aawp-product-asin="B00LMF41IY" data-aawp-product-id="113597" data-aawp-tracking-id="fctmaster-20" data-aawp-product-title="Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speaker Pair" data-aawp-local-click-tracking="1" href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LMF41IY?tag=fctmaster-20&amp;linkCode=ogi&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1" title="Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speaker (Pair)" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/619wBef76xL._AC_SL1142_.jpg" alt="Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speaker (Pair)" width="600" height="600" /></a>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>Do you pay extra for the price of beauty? We say you should, especially for the fantastic look of the <em><strong>R-15M</strong></em>. While this is probably the most expensive item on our best bookshelf speakers under $300 reviews, it is still at a decent price point at $150.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">R-15M Speakers Overview</h4>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>1-inch aluminum linear travel suspension horn-loaded tweeter</li><li>5.25-inch copper-spun IMG woofer</li><li>Rear-firing port</li><li>Consists of MDF boards covered with black vinyl</li></ul>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Highlights</h4>

<p>The <em><strong>Klipsch R-15M</strong></em> is probably the most aesthetically pleasing speaker system on this list.</p>

<p>While others have that retro charm, the sleek black vinyl contrasting with the bright copper color of the woofer gives it a clean and elegant design. You won’t find anything like it in this price range.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"><a data-aawp-product-asin="B00LMF41IY" data-aawp-product-id="113597" data-aawp-tracking-id="fctmaster-20" data-aawp-product-title="Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speaker Pair" data-aawp-local-click-tracking="1" href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LMF41IY?tag=fctmaster-20&amp;linkCode=ogi&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1" title="Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speaker (Pair)" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51NFCx9M7SL._AC_SL1142_.jpg" alt="Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speaker (Pair)" width="500" height="500" /></a>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"><a href="https://amzn.to/2IEhGO6" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>What are Klipsch R-15M Owners Saying? &gt;&gt;</strong></a></p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>It is important to note that the R-15M speakers are passive, which means you’ll need an amplifier to power them.</p>

<p>Each speaker has the capacity of 80 Watts of continuous power output, with peak power at 340 watts.</p>

<p>Performance-wise, the R15-M trebles are clear, crisp, and extremely clean due to the <strong>Dynamic tractrix horn loaded tweeter</strong>. These speakers are also able to produce some deep bass despite its size.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.klipsch.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Klipsch</a> ensured that these speakers were capable of producing robust sound even with its affordable price tag.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="kad-youtube-shortcode videofit" ><iframe loading="lazy" width="1000" height="563" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7N8N4elbIag?autoplay=0&controls=1&fs=1&modestbranding=0&theme=dark&rel=0&loop=0&showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"> <i class="icon-checkmark kad-circle-iconclass" style="font-size:48px; display:inline-block; color:#a1a1a1; background:#FFF; "></i>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Good / What We Like</h4>

<p>The immaculate audio that the R-15M can produce is impressive for its size. The natural sounds produced by the dynamic tractrix horn is superb.</p>

<p>And along with the design, this is a pair of speakers that true audiophiles would consider despite being budget speakers</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"> <i class="icon-close kad-circle-iconclass" style="font-size:48px; display:inline-block; color:#a1a1a1; background:#FFF; "></i>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Bad / What We Don&#8217;t Like</h4>

<p>If only the R-15M had a built-in amplifier, it would have also been the best active bookshelf speaker under $300. But we really can’t expect it to have everything.</p>

<p>Additionally, it doesn’t have attachment supports and can’t be wall mounted. Thus, it is limited to tables or surfaces.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>Audiophiles are pretty hard to please. Probably none of the speakers in this lineup will be particularly impressive. But then if you’re an enthusiast, you probably won’t be purchasing budget speakers anyway.</p>

<p>The<em><strong> Edifier R1280T</strong></em> would be an excellent choice for the audiophile on a budget, as it offers a versatile spectrum and bass that is impressive for a speaker in its price range.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>It is a welcome departure from the all-black speakers that we see in this price range. The central area of the speakers is made of high-quality plastic.</p>

<p>The <strong>build is stable</strong>, which means you won’t be getting issues with sound quality when you turn your volume up high.</p>

<p>The <strong>R1280T</strong> are <em>not powerful enough to fill a large room</em>, but it will work for a small- to medium-sized entertainment room or bedroom. It has excellent full and rich midrange audio, and the trebles are clear.</p>

<p>There are issues on the quality of the audio once you reach the lower limits of the frequency range and bass. For the price range of these speakers, you can’t complain, as the quality goes beyond its price.</p>

<p>The design is something we liked about the <em>R1280T speakers</em>, considering that all the speakers we have on this list have that black look.</p>

<p>The dual input is another feature we love as you can switch between audio sources seamlessly. The bass, treble, and volume controls on the back of the speakers are also a great addition.</p>

<p>If you’re looking for a minimalist set of budget speakers, you probably don’t have to look further than the <strong>Micca MB42X</strong>.</p>

<p>A significant improvement from the original<em> MB42</em>, the addition of the 18db/Octave crossover boosted the performance of the speakers, placing it firmly among the best small bookshelf speakers under $300.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Highlights</h4>

<p>The <em><strong>Micca MB42X speakers</strong></em> are leaps and bounds ahead of the MB42. Interestingly enough, it only required one thing to bring about the massive improvement, the addition of the crossover.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>The 18dB/Octave 9 element crossover dramatically changed the audio quality that the MB42X produced.</p>

<p>The image produced is incredible in that it feels like they’re coming for a much broader set of speakers.</p>

<p>If you close your eyes, you would think that floor speakers were producing the audio, and this is a big deal considering that they are budget speakers.</p>

<p>Design-wise the MB42X speakers from <a href="http://www.miccatron.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Micca</a> have that minimalist charm with a simple graphite laminate finish and rounded corners.</p>

<p>You definitely won’t be buying this for aesthetic purposes. But they do perform well.</p>

<p>Their size at 6.5 x 5.8 x 9.5 inches means that they will practically fit anywhere and would be incognito in your room’s décor.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Good / What We Like</h4>

<p>The sound image produced by the MB42X is incredible, and the addition of the crossover is the reason for this.</p>

<p>It was a welcome departure from the MB42, which performed poorly. The MB42X can match larger and more expensive speakers.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"> <i class="icon-close kad-circle-iconclass" style="font-size:48px; display:inline-block; color:#a1a1a1; background:#FFF; "></i>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Bad / What We Don&#8217;t Like</h4>

<p>The MB42X is not self-powered, which means it <strong>requires an amplifier</strong> or a receiver for it to play audio.</p>

<p>This limitation is probably a good thing anyway because you’d want to use an amplifier to boost its performance on more demanding music like hard rock if you’re into it.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>Andrew Jones has an incredible history when it comes to loudspeakers. He was the chief engineer of speakers for brands like KEF, Technical Audio Devices Laboratories, and infinity.</p>

<p>He built a reputation for himself by designing speakers that sound amazing while at the same time, being incredibly cheap.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">SP-BS22-LR Speaker Highlights</h4>

<p>The SP-BS22-LR sits at only 9.2 pounds. They are lightweight, and with a frame of 8.4 x 7.1 x 12.6 inches, they are incredibly compact, even for the category of bookshelf speakers.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media/vc/f3c0cf0e-9edf-4694-ac31-fccd3ba65655.__CR0,0,970,600_PT0_SX970_V1___.jpg" alt="Pioneer SP-BS22-LR Speakers"/></figure></div>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"><a href="https://amzn.to/2IK5hIv" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Are Pioneer SP-BS22-LR Speakers Worth the Price? &gt;&gt;</strong></a></p>

<p>Its size gives it a great advantage as far as speaker placement options go. You can place them anywhere, and you can use them for your home theater system, stereo, or even on a table with your desktop computer.</p>

<p>The <em><strong>SP-BS22-LR speakers</strong></em> produce amazing high-frequency audio that quickly places it on par with any of the high-fidelity bookshelf speakers in the market today.</p>

<p>The soft dome t<strong>weeter produces natural sounds</strong> and greatly enhances audio clarity and tone. These speakers are a testament to the engineering skills of Andrew Jones.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, its size, while an advantage, is also the most significant impediment to these bookshelf speakers. The <em>SP-BS22-LR speakers</em> do not have the driver power and capacity to generate great full-bodied base.</p>

<p>The 80-watt power handling is yet another detriment as it cannot produce the same strength as other speakers can.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="kad-youtube-shortcode videofit" ><iframe loading="lazy" width="1000" height="563" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/QAlbYA-iFic?autoplay=0&controls=1&fs=1&modestbranding=0&theme=dark&rel=0&loop=0&showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div>

<div style="height:50px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"> <i class="icon-checkmark kad-circle-iconclass" style="font-size:48px; display:inline-block; color:#a1a1a1; background:#FFF; "></i>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Good / What We Like</h4>

<p>The SP-BS22-LR is definitely among the <strong>best sealed bookshelf speakers under 300</strong>, and it is worthy of having the name of Andrew Jones attached to it.</p>

<p>It’s incredible how Pioneer was able to make such great sounding speakers at this price. The size allows you to place it practically anywhere without affecting the quality of the sounds it produces.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"> <i class="icon-close kad-circle-iconclass" style="font-size:48px; display:inline-block; color:#a1a1a1; background:#FFF; "></i>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Bad / What We Don&#8217;t Like</h4>

<p>As we mentioned, the size is also a problem because they <em>cannot match the strength and bass quality of other speakers on the market</em>. If you’re looking for loud, fantastic, and punchy bass, this is probably not the set for you.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Polk Audio T15</h3>

<p class="has-text-align-center"><a data-aawp-product-asin="B002RJLHB8" data-aawp-product-id="113599" data-aawp-tracking-id="fctmaster-20" data-aawp-product-title="Polk Audio T15 100 Watt Home Theater Bookshelf Speakers – Hi-Res Audio with Deep Bass Response Dolby and DTS Surround Wall-Mountable Pair Black" data-aawp-local-click-tracking="1" href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RJLHB8?tag=fctmaster-20&amp;linkCode=ogi&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1" title="Polk Audio T15 100 Watt Home Theater Bookshelf Speakers – Hi-Res Audio..." rel="nofollow noopener sponsored" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/6179HhYbVrL._AC_SL1200_.jpg" alt="Polk Audio T15 100 Watt Home Theater Bookshelf Speakers – Hi-Res Audio..." width="600" height="600" /></a>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>If you’re on a budget, you’re probably going to get a simple pair of speakers. But simple doesn’t mean that a product can’t deliver quality results. Speaker manufacturing giant, <a href="https://www.polkaudio.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Polk Audio</a>, proves that cheap and accessible speakers can provide high-quality audio with their T15.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Polk T15 Speakers Overview</h4>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Immersive surround sound with 0.75” Tweeter, 5.25” balance driver</li><li>Wall mountable</li><li>Part of the T-series set for a 5.1 surround sound experience</li><li>Straightforward and easy to use</li><li>Wide dispersion and great area coverage</li></ul>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Highlights</h4>

<p>At first glance, you can easily see that <em><strong>Polk Audio T15 speakers</strong></em> have a classier look than most bookshelf speakers at its price range with its black wood-grain side panels. It does look decent with its grilles on.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"><a data-aawp-product-asin="B002RJLHB8" data-aawp-product-id="113599" data-aawp-tracking-id="fctmaster-20" data-aawp-product-title="Polk Audio T15 100 Watt Home Theater Bookshelf Speakers – Hi-Res Audio with Deep Bass Response Dolby and DTS Surround Wall-Mountable Pair Black" data-aawp-local-click-tracking="1" href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RJLHB8?tag=fctmaster-20&amp;linkCode=ogi&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1" title="Polk Audio T15 100 Watt Home Theater Bookshelf Speakers – Hi-Res Audio..." rel="nofollow noopener sponsored" target="_blank"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61f-y4q4o5L._AC_SL1187_.jpg" alt="Polk Audio T15 100 Watt Home Theater Bookshelf Speakers – Hi-Res Audio..." width="600" height="600" /></a>

<p class="has-text-align-center"><a href="https://amzn.to/2Kfuq0N" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>What are Polk Audio T15 Users Saying? &gt;&gt;</strong></a></p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>Removing the grilles reveals a unique design with the front-mounted port found between the 5.25-inch woofer and the 0.75-inch silk tweeter. All engineered with what Polk Audio calls their proprietary Dynamic Balance technology.</p>

<p>The furniture grade MDF cabinet construction of the speakers reduce distortion and resonance, creating a rich and detailed sound.</p>

<p>Polk Audio made the <strong>T15</strong> for dispersion. With the<strong> keyhole mount</strong> at the back of each speaker, you can easily mount it on your wall for a wide soundstage or place them as front or rear speakers on your home audio setup.</p>

<p>They are compatible with most <strong>home theater systems</strong>, processors, and stereos.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="kad-youtube-shortcode videofit" ><iframe loading="lazy" width="1000" height="563" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lGfW6MaY7oo?autoplay=0&controls=1&fs=1&modestbranding=0&theme=dark&rel=0&loop=0&showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Good / What We Like</h4>

<p>I admire the simple elegance of the T15. Its clean and classy design makes it a natural fit for any home audio system. It produces full sounds and creates a wide soundstage. It has a dynamic range, and it is surprisingly loud for budget speakers.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="has-text-align-center"> <i class="icon-close kad-circle-iconclass" style="font-size:48px; display:inline-block; color:#a1a1a1; background:#FFF; "></i>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Bad / What We Don&#8217;t Like</h4>

<p>While the T15 does produce full sounds, <em>they’re not perfect</em>. Audiophiles would easily be able to point out a sort of veiled or covered sound to the audio, which is mainly evident when its placed at ear level and on some specific recordings.</p>

<p>The later isn’t a deal breaker, though, as the issue can easily be solved by mounting them higher or placing them lower than ear-level.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1280" height="720" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Guide.jpg" alt="Best Budget Turntable Speakers for Vinyl - Guide" class="wp-image-1415" srcset="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Guide.jpg 1280w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Guide-889x500.jpg 889w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Guide-768x432.jpg 768w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Guide-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>Some people are content with built-in speakers on their TV and laptops, or to go out and buy cheap speakers. But let us tell you, there is no better feeling in the world for someone who appreciates quality audio than switching from cheap speakers to a true hi-fi speaker setup.</p>

<p>Even if you’re not an audiophile, the ability to hear every little thump, boom, and rumble in a movie, a television show, or a triple-A game, is enough to send chills running down your spine.</p>

<p>So, if you’re that person who truly values more precise and <strong>high-quality audio</strong>, then you need to understand what considerations you need to make. You need to know what features you need to look for when <em>purchasing your bookshelf speakers</em>.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Environment</h3>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1280" height="720" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Environment.jpg" alt="Best Budget Turntable Speakers for Vinyl - Environment" class="wp-image-1413" srcset="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Environment.jpg 1280w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Environment-889x500.jpg 889w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Environment-768x432.jpg 768w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Environment-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>One of the first considerations that you need to make is the location where you will be placing your speakers. If you plan on connecting them to <a href="https://fatcityturntables.com/how-to-choose-the-best-record-player/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">your new record player,</a> using them in a small room, then purchasing big and <em>powerful bookshelf speakers</em> won’t do you any good.</p>

<p>The waves will bounce off the walls immediately and muddle the audio. On the opposite end, <em>small compact speakers</em> won’t do well in large rooms either. The sound will be weak and will, therefore, render the speakers ineffective.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Speaker Specs</h3>

<p>Speakers have a myriad of features and specs such as those offered by <a href="https://www.klipsch.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Klipsch</a>, but the most important aspects to consider are the following:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Are they active or passive?</li><li>The type of amplifier needed</li><li>The driver sizes</li><li>Power output</li><li>Input and Output Types</li><li>Impedance</li><li>Frequency Range</li></ul>

<p>These are all vital features you need to look into as these will affect the quality of the sound produced by the speakers and whether you need extra accessories to use them.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="kad-youtube-shortcode videofit" ><iframe loading="lazy" width="1000" height="563" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/13XITK8PyQU?autoplay=0&controls=1&fs=1&modestbranding=0&theme=dark&rel=0&loop=0&showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div>

<div style="height:50px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Your Preference</h3>

<p>Several things fall in this category, the first being the aesthetics. Is it essential that your speakers match the décor of the room, or are you just looking for performance?</p>

<p>The latter is a crucial consideration as there might be some tradeoffs in features and price if you’re looking for bookshelf speakers that are pleasing to the eyes.</p>

<p>Second, you might not have enough space in your room or on your desk. You may want to mount your speakers on the wall. Some speakers have attachments or designs that easily allow for this.</p>

<p>For other speakers, you may need to <strong>purchase additional accessories</strong> to mount them on the wall.</p>

<p>Lastly, your taste in music is vital to your choice of speakers. If you’re into dubstep and techno, you would want to purchase bookshelf speakers that can give you that powerful bass with no distortion.</p>

<p>If your taste is for classical music or jazz, then your speakers should be able to produce clean and clear mid- and high- level frequencies.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Does Bigger Mean Better for Bookshelf Speakers?</h3>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1280" height="607" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Size.jpg" alt="Best Budget Turntable Speakers for Vinyl - Size" class="wp-image-1416" srcset="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Size.jpg 1280w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Size-1054x500.jpg 1054w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Size-768x364.jpg 768w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Best-Budget-Turntable-Speakers-for-Vinyl-Size-1024x486.jpg 1024w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better; it comes down to the <strong>quality of the speakers</strong> and where you want to place them.</p>

<p>Admittedly, bookshelf speakers won’t ever be able to match the audio quality and the volume that floor speakers produce. But the reason you’re buying bookshelf speakers is to maximize the space in your home.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What Is Sound Image and Sound Stage?</h3>

<p><strong>Sound stage and sound image</strong> vary from one personal definition to another. But let us consider it as the raw depth of the sound or the picture that the music portrays.</p>

<p>The spatial locations of the sound sources are essential, and that’s why surround sound exists. Hearing that sound creep up from behind you gives you that immersive feeling. A great set of speakers should be able to provide you with that mental audio image.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What Is the Difference Between Active and Passive Speakers?</h3>

<p>This one is relatively straightforward. <em>Passive speakers require a separate amplifier to power them</em>. They also need to be plugged to the amp via speaker cables to be able to transfer the sound from the amps to the speakers.</p>

<p>On the other hand, an active speaker is essentially an all-in-one system that has a built power amplifier. A dynamic speaker needs a power source such as a wall socket, or a battery in some cases, to power it.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="kad-youtube-shortcode videofit" ><iframe loading="lazy" width="1000" height="563" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jPYH45fE7Ds?autoplay=0&controls=1&fs=1&modestbranding=0&theme=dark&rel=0&loop=0&showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div>

<div style="height:50px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What Is Impedance, and Why Is It Essential in Speakers?</h3>

<p>The impedance spec on a speaker tells you how much electric current will flow through a set of speakers at a specific voltage. A speaker with higher impedance, say 8 ohms, extracts less power from your amplifier than a 4-ohm impedance speaker.</p>

<p>The latter is crucial because most people have no idea <em>how to combine speakers safely</em> and end up destroying either their amplifier or their speakers.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="kad-youtube-shortcode videofit" ><iframe loading="lazy" width="1000" height="563" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nzGMdr6SH-E?autoplay=0&controls=1&fs=1&modestbranding=0&theme=dark&rel=0&loop=0&showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div>

<p>Now that we’ve run through our reviews of the <em><strong>best budget bookshelf speakers for vinyl</strong></em>, which of these speakers is the best among the rest?</p>

<p>The winner is the <strong>Klipsch R-15M</strong>. The sounds produced through the <strong>Tractrix Horn-Loaded Linear Travel Suspension Tweeter</strong> are immaculate. The other speakers on this list cannot match the natural sounds produced by these speakers on low-, mid-, and high-range frequencies.</p>

<p>The design is excellent as well. It’s a welcome change from other pure black speakers in the market. It may be a bit more expensive than other speakers on this list, but it will give you the most bang for your buck.</p>

<h4>!. What’s the difference between a stylus or needle and a cartridge?</h4>
<p>To answer that, we need to discuss the tonearm first.</p>
<p>The tonearm is the part of your record player that holds the headshell. It allows its parts, which are the cartridge and the stylus, to be positioned above and parallel to the record that you’re currently playing on the turntable.</p>
<p>The headshell is attached to the tip of the tonearm, and it is where the cartridge is attached. The cartridge is the small rectangular piece that holds the stylus in place. All cartridges come with their own stylus, but styli can be purchased separately.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="a2"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2272" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-needle-divider-e1584477209200.png" alt="fct needle divider e1584477209200" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>2. How Do I Know If My Stylus Needs Replacing?</h4>
<p>The main reason styli can be purchased separately is that they get worn down and will eventually need to be replaced. Don’t worry, most manufacturers offer stylus replacements, even for their cartridges that have long been out of production.</p>
<p>Tell-tale signs that your stylus needs replacing is an obvious change in sound quality, skips and slips during music play, and finally, jagged or bent edges when viewed under a magnifying glass.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="a3"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2272" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-needle-divider-e1584477209200.png" alt="fct needle divider e1584477209200" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>3. How Often Do You Need to Replace a Record Player Needle?</h4>
<p><em>So how do you know when to replace turntable needles?</em> The basic rule of thumb when it comes to stylus replacement is to replace it once every couple of years or after 1000 hours of play. Nonetheless, you can go ahead and replace your stylus if you’ve noticed any of the symptoms we’ve shared above.</p>
<p>You must also remember always to replace the stylus of a second-hand record player before you use it in order to protect your vinyl records.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><div class="kad-youtube-shortcode videofit" ><iframe loading="lazy" width="1000" height="563" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qxgH3e-FtI0?autoplay=0&controls=1&fs=1&modestbranding=0&theme=dark&rel=0&loop=0&showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="a4"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2272" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-needle-divider-e1584477209200.png" alt="fct needle divider e1584477209200" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>4. How Long Does a Record Needle Last?</h4>
<p>As we mentioned above, record needles last for as long as a thousand hours of use. However, you can prolong its life even more by taking good care of it. Clean it regularly and make sure that the tracking force you’re using is correct.</p>
<p>The same applies to cartridges. Surprisingly a cartridge body can last up to fifty years if you really take care of it, but it can also easily get damaged if you’re not careful.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="a5"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2272" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-needle-divider-e1584477209200.png" alt="fct needle divider e1584477209200" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>5. Can a Worn Stylus Damage Records?</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1793" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/vinylneedle.gif" alt="vinylneedle" width="611" height="344"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p>Yes, it can. A damaged or worn stylus can scratch the surface of your precious records and even damage its grooves. If you suspect that your stylus is already scratched, then we advise you to stop using your record player until you find the suitable stylus replacement.</p>
<p>It’s important to keep in mind, though, that sometimes, it’s not really the stylus that’s the problem but the record itself. Fine dust and debris can easily get in between the grooves of your records and create a hissing, damaged sound.</p>
<p>If this is the case, then you must clean the record itself with a vinyl record brush. There’s also a cleaning solution that you can buy online or in record stores that you can easily spray and wipe carefully into your vinyl records to loosen up and remove more stubborn elements stuck on its grooves.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="a6"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2272" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-needle-divider-e1584477209200.png" alt="fct needle divider e1584477209200" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>6. How Do I Choose the Right Cartridge?</h4>
<p>There are several factors that you have to consider when choosing the right cartridge. First, you need to make sure that your cartridge matches the mount of your record player’s tonearm.</p>
<p>Next, you need to take into account the mass of the tonearm. Make sure that it matches the mass of the cartridge that you’re thinking of buying in order to retain the proper balance. Your record player’s manual should have this information ready for you.</p>
<p>Don’t forget to check the main mechanism of your cartridge. <em>Is it a moving magnet or moving coil?</em> Each has its pros and cons.</p>
<p>Finally, please take note that some cartridges have a replaceable stylus, while others don’t. This means that you would have to replace the entire cartridge if the stylus gets worn if your choice has an irreplaceable stylus.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="a7"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2272" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-needle-divider-e1584477209200.png" alt="fct needle divider e1584477209200" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>7. Are Turntable Cartridges Interchangeable?</h4>
<p>Yes, as long as the cartridge matches the mount of your record player’s tonearm, you can mix and match according to your preferences, regardless of the brand. In fact, that’s what we encourage you to do. Exploring and experimentation is part of the enjoyment.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="a8"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2272" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-needle-divider-e1584477209200.png" alt="fct needle divider e1584477209200" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>8. How Do I Change the Stylus on My Record Player?</h4>
<p>Replacing the stylus for the first time can be quite intimidating, but don’t worry, it is actually pretty easy. The first thing you need to do is to find out the stylus you need. You can check the serial number usually engraved on the cartridge itself.</p>
<p>Next, carefully remove the cartridge from the tonearm of your device and pull out the needle. It is advisable to clean that spot with compressed air before attaching the new stylus. Once done cleaning, you may now insert your needle facing down and put your cartridge back into your record player’s tonearm.</p>

<h4>1. Does Vinyl Sound Better?</h4>
<p>Yes, they do because a lot of data is actually lost when an audio file is compressed into a digital format. This loss doesn’t happen when it gets pressed down into a vinyl record. You are going to hear your music exactly the way your favorite artists intended to.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>2. Do Record Players Sound Better?</h4>
<p>Yes, they do. That’s mainly because vinyl sound better as well, even when compared to the highest quality audio file you have downloaded for streaming. You must ensure that your player has great sound quality, though, and minimal vibrations.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="b3"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2270" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-record-divider.png" alt="fct record divider" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>3. Are Vinyl Records Worth Money?</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2261" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/piggy-bank.jpg" alt="piggy bank" width="1000" height="406" srcset="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/piggy-bank.jpg 1000w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/piggy-bank-768x312.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>Yes, they are. First, as we mentioned above, vinyl records sound significantly better than CDs or digital audio files.</p>
<p>Second, only the best musicians have a vinyl equivalent of their albums. That’s because vinyl caters to a particular demographic of music lovers—the more discerning ones.</p>
<p>Finally, searching for your records is an experience on its own. It can take quite a while to find a record that you actually like, and it all makes the listening more pleasurable and satisfying.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="b4"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2270" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-record-divider.png" alt="fct record divider" width="500" height="48"></p>

<h4>4. Is It Bad to Leave a Record on the Turntable?</h4>
<p>Yes, it is. Even certified audiophiles forget to return their records into their jackets from time to time, but it’s a good habit always to remember to do so.</p>
<p>Keeping your record out and exposed to the elements increases the risk of it getting dirty or damaged. If you’re always guilty of doing so, then at least don’t forget to leave the dust cover open.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="b5"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2270" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-record-divider.png" alt="fct record divider" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>5. Is It Ok to Touch a Vinyl Record?</h4>
<p>Definitely not the surface, you’re going to transfer the dirt and dust from your hands into your vinyl record. You can also cause unintentional damage to its grooves. At the very least, handle the records by the edges only.</p>
<p>Hence, it’s always a good practice to wear gloves if you’re planning to turn your collection frequently, and please do so with the utmost care.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>6. Do Vinyl Records Scratch Easily?</h4>
<p>Yes, they do because vinyl is actually a susceptible material. Even the tiny bits of dust, or just simply stacking them on top of each other, may already cause some damage.</p>
<p>Nevertheless, if you have followed our tips above on how to clean your vinyl records, then you won’t have to worry about those bits of dust.</p>
<p>The only thing that you need to do now is practice good vinyl habits such as inserting it back into its jacket after listening and handling it carefully at all times.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>7. Do Vinyl Records Wear Out?</h4>
<p>They only do if you don’t take care of them properly and if you don’t monitor your stylus. By following the tips we have already shared with you above, we’re sure that your favorite records will last for a very long time.</p>
<p>If you have purchased a vintage vinyl record and you suspect that it’s already worn out, then we recommend giving it a good cleaning first. Don’t forget to inspect your stylus if it’s still in good condition, as well, just to rule out all the possibilities.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>1. Do You Need Speakers for Record Players?</h4>
<p>That depends on the quality of the built-in speaker inside your record player. It doesn’t hurt to use external speakers anyway since they can improve the sound quality of your unit.</p>
<p>Just make sure to place your speakers on a separate surface from your record player so that the speaker’s vibrations won’t bother your device.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>2. Can You Connect a Turntable Directly to Speakers?</h4>
<p>That depends on the jacks installed into your device if they accommodate those of your speakers’. Don’t worry, most of them do. We’re sure that you won’t have any trouble connecting your turntable to its speakers.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>3. What Are Good Speakers for a Record Player?</h4>
<p>Choose speakers with great dynamics and accuracy. We also recommend looking into the materials your choice of speakers are made of. Make sure that they are of high-quality components and have sonically inert casings.</p>
<p>Also, the best way to know whether or not a speaker is good is to listen to it. There’s no other way. Reading about its specs will only take you so far. <h4>1. Do I Need a Preamp for My Turntable?</h4>
<p>The answer is both yes and no. Yes, because every turntable needs a preamp in order to translate its sound signals into something that your record player, its speakers, and other audio devices can read.</p>
<p>No, because most turntables already have their own preamp inside. If that’s the case, then there’s no need for a standalone preamp anymore.</p>
<p>We do understand, though, that some want to upgrade their sound quality and still decide to get a separate preamp regardless. If you’re one of them, then check out our answer to the next question below for more information.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="d2"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2273" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-preamp-divider.png" alt="fct preamp divider" width="500" height="48"></p>

<h4>2. How Do I Hook up a Phono Preamp?</h4>
<p>Most turntables and record players already have a preamp built-in. Sometimes, even speakers have them too. However, if you do decide to get a separate one in order to level up your set-up even more, then here’s what you need to do.</p>
<p>You should connect all your audio cords accordingly. Don’t forget to connect the ground wire to a ground post if there’s one. Connect the audio cords from your turntable into your preamp, then connect the preamp’s cords into your audio system.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>3. How Important Is the Quality of the Preamp?</h4>
<p>The preamp helps translate the weaker signals of your turntable into signals that your speakers and other audio devices will recognize. Hence, it is essential. Without it, you will only have a very weak sound.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>4. How Do I Choose a Phono Preamp?</h4>
<p>The main reference for choosing the best preamp for your record player is by referring to your cartridge. There are preamps made explicitly for moving magnet ones, and there are preamps for moving coil ones. Getting one that matches your cartridge will give you the best sound quality.</p>

<h4>1. Why Does My Record Player Skip?</h4>
<p>There are four common reasons why a record player may skip. First, there might be some dirt and dust on the grooves of your vinyl record. Second, your stylus or cartridge probably needs replacing already.</p>
<p>Third, you have not set the balance of your cartridge properly. Finally, the vinyl record itself might be damaged already. To learn how to clean your record needle, you may read <a href="https://fatcityturntables.com/how-to-clean-a-record-needle/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">our quick guide right here</a>.</p>

<h4>2. How Do I Connect My Record Player to My Speakers?</h4>
<p>Your record player will have jacks where you can attach the audio cords that will connect your player to your speakers. Or better yet, you might have a preamp that connects to both.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="e3"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2269" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-setup-divider.png" alt="fct setup divider" width="500" height="48"></p>

<h4>3. Does My Turntable Need an Amplifier?</h4>
<p>Yes and no. Yes, your turntable needs an amplifier in order to strengthen the weak signals it produces into something your speakers will be able to read. And no, because your turntable or your speakers might have a built-in amplifier in them already.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="e4"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2269" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-setup-divider.png" alt="fct setup divider" width="500" height="48"></p>

<h4>4. What’s the Best Way for Me to Convert My Records to Digital Files?</h4>
<p>The best way to do so is by getting a record player already equipped with the feature. Most of them have the defining feature of having a USB port. Otherwise, you would have to record it manually instead.</p>
<p>After doing so and you have already transferred the file to your computer, you may then proceed to clean your audio file with an audio-recording software. We prefer to use Audacity because it’s free and it gets the job done.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>5. Do All Turntables Have RCA Outputs?</h4>
<p>Most of them do. You will recognize this if your record player or turntable has a cable that divides the left and right signals. If you’re still unsure, then we suggest referring to your turntable’s manual for more information.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<h4>1. Is Phono or Line Better?</h4>
<p>Honestly, it is difficult to compare the two since they are both very different. A phono is a signal that is more raw to your record player, yet it is weak, around only 0.005 volts. This is the reason speakers won’t be able to catch and translate them accordingly.</p>
<p>If you connect a phono to a line input, your music will sound very strange, and it will almost have no sound at all.</p>
<p>The line signal, on the other hand, is the signal that your speakers and most of your other audio devices recognize. It is stronger, around 0.3 volts, and is more defined.</p>
<p>You won’t have to worry about these signals most of the time since a lot of turntables, record players, and speakers have built-in amplifiers that will translate these signals automatically for you.</p>
<p>However, if you need a standalone amplifier, then you must attach the phono cord into the respective jack and use the line cord to attach to your speakers and other audio devices.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="f2"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2268" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-question-divider.png" alt="fct question divider" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>2. What&#8217;s an Automatic Turntable?</h4>
<p>An automatic turntable is a device equipped with automatic features, and most of all, a tonearm that lifts itself from a resting position and places itself on top of your record to start playing. Once the track is done, it will lift itself from the track and return to its resting position.</p>
<p>Some users prefer this since they reduce the effort you need to do in order to play and stop your turntable. It is important to note, though, that this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to lift your tonearm manually. You can still do so.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><div class="kad-youtube-shortcode videofit" ><iframe loading="lazy" width="1000" height="563" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TOAhhsBhJNQ?autoplay=0&controls=1&fs=1&modestbranding=0&theme=dark&rel=0&loop=0&showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="f3"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2268" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-question-divider.png" alt="fct question divider" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>3. What Makes One Turntable Sound Better Than Another?</h4>
<p>There are a lot of different factors that you need to consider. First, the quality of the cartridge and the attached stylus plays a role in it. Next, some turntables are simply built with more features that allow better accuracy, less vibration, and, ultimately, better sound quality.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<p><a id="f4"></a><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2268" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/fct-question-divider.png" alt="fct question divider" width="500" height="48"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>
<h4>4. Which Is Better? Belt-Driven Turntables or Direct Drive Turntables?</h4>
<p>Honestly, they each have their own pros and cons. Belt-driven turntables are those wherein an elastic belt rotates their platters. That belt can efficiently absorb any vibrations that can affect sound quality.</p>
<p>However, they do tend to get worn down and are not consistent when it comes to the speed of the rotation.</p>
<p>Direct drive turntables, on the other hand, have their platter rotated directly by the motor. As such, their speed is more consistent, and they don’t get worn down as a belt does.</p>
<p>The problem is, the motor itself can cause unwanted vibrations that can mess up your track’s sounds.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-378" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20x20.png" alt="" width="20" height="20"></p>

<p>Let’s get down to brass tacks by changing the question a little. Let’s figure out how much a decent turntable would cost instead.</p>

<p>Obviously, you’re best off if you set some money aside for this purchase. The better the quality of the equipment you purchase, the better the results are likely to be. It doesn’t pay to cheap out here because cheap players may not play the records at the right speed, are more likely to skip or slid, and could end up damaging the vinyl.</p>

<p>That said, you don’t have to mortgage your house to get a decent system. You might consider spending around $200 &#8211; $400 to get yourself something that will produce great sound and last for a good many years if you listen to a lot of music.</p>

<p>If you’re not going to listen to it all the time, you can easily make do with one of these <a href="https://fatcityturntables.com/best-record-player-under-200/">record players under $200</a>. Do your research upfront. We publish reviews of most of the models to hit the market, so our site is a good place to start.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1280" height="720" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/How-Much-Does-a-Record-Player-Cost.jpg" alt="How Much Does a Record Player Cost?" class="wp-image-982" srcset="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/How-Much-Does-a-Record-Player-Cost.jpg 1280w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/How-Much-Does-a-Record-Player-Cost-889x500.jpg 889w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/How-Much-Does-a-Record-Player-Cost-768x432.jpg 768w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/How-Much-Does-a-Record-Player-Cost-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Why Should You Buy Vinyl Records?</h3>

<p>Audiophiles can be tough to please, which is one of the reasons that vinyl has made such a comeback. Vinyl sounds a lot better than your standard CD because of the difference in recording.</p>

<p>CDs are digital recordings, which means that not all the sound information is recorded when it is being played. If there are gaps in specific sounds, it doesn’t matter because the computer can fill them in.</p>

<p>Vinyl, on the other hand, records every little nuance. <a href="https://electronics.howstuffworks.com/is-the-sound-on-vinyl-records-better-than-on-cds-or-dvds.htm" rel="noopener">How Stuff Works</a> has a very nice explanation of the process, so check that out if you want to know more. For most of us, though, it’s enough to know simply that a vinyl recording has more depth.</p>

<p>For this reason, you should consider buying a record player. The next question, no doubt, will be “<strong>How much does a record player cost?</strong>” The answer, maddeningly enough, is “It varies.” Like everything in life, you can get turntables at a range of different prices.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What&#8217;s the difference between a record player and a turntable?</h3>

<p>These terms tend to be used interchangeably, but there is a difference. The turntable, technically speaking, is just the disc that actually spins the records, and the phrase “record player” refers to the entire device.&nbsp; Every record player has a turntable.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Do record players need speakers?</h3>

<p>Like a CD player, a record player sends out a signal; to be able to hear this signal, you’ll need speakers of some kind. These can be in the form of added or built-in speakers, but some record players also give you the option of plugging in earphones.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What&#8217;s the best record player to buy?</h3>

<p>That’s a loaded question and one that will <strong>depend on the budget</strong> that you can set aside. Which option you get depends on what kind of performance you want. It’s advisable to get the best quality that you can afford, preferably in a model that you can upgrade later.</p>

<p>If you’re not sure about whether or not this is the way forward for you, stick to a <strong>minimum $80 &#8211; $100 price range</strong>. Make sure that it has an integrated preamp so that you can pipe the sound to your speakers without issues.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><a href="https://fatcityturntables.com/how-to-choose-the-best-record-player/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1280" height="720" src="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/How-to-Choose-the-Best-Record-Player-FCT.jpg" alt="How to Choose the Best Record Player" class="wp-image-521" srcset="https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/How-to-Choose-the-Best-Record-Player-FCT.jpg 1280w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/How-to-Choose-the-Best-Record-Player-FCT-889x500.jpg 889w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/How-to-Choose-the-Best-Record-Player-FCT-768x432.jpg 768w, https://fatcityturntables.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/How-to-Choose-the-Best-Record-Player-FCT-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>Also look for a model that allows you to switch out cartridges. This allows you to upgrade the sound quality later at a much lower cost. Look at the way the turntable is driven, too. A belt-driven model will reward you with fewer vibrations, but the belt may need to be repositioned if you are changing speeds.</p>

<p>Stick with a reputable manufacturer and don’t get sidetracked by features that you will seldom, if ever, use. At a later stage, you might want something that gives you a few more options, but to start off with, simpler is better.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Final Answer To &#8220;How Much Does A Record Player Cost?&#8221;</h2>

<p><strong>Be prepared to pay at least $100 for a somewhat decent stater record player</strong>. If you are a music lover and plan to amass an extensive collection of vinyl, save up a bit and get a better model. At the very least, look for options that are upgradable at a later stage.</p>

<p>It’s worth spending a couple hundred dollars on one piece of music equipment that only plays vinyl if you enjoy music that is as close to what the artist recorded as possible. Choose a decent quality option, and you’ll be hooked for life.</p>
