Hi there and welcome to Fat City Turntables. My name is Steve, my team and I are on a mission to give you clear, simplified and actionable advice about record players and turntables.

If you’re a new reader and want to get started on your awesome audio journey today, check out our Blog Roll Page.

Fat City Turntables was established in 2016 with the goal of providing easy to understand information about the differences in record players, and provide helpful advice that makes a real impact. Personally, I’ve always frustrated with seeing too many turntable websites fail to provide actionable information to their readers.

I wanted Fat City Turntables to be different, and I made a commitment to making sure our advice can be followed by regular people with a love for music on vinyl who are looking for real answers to their questions.

My Story

I grew up with record players and turntables constantly playing the latest vinyl releases in our house. This gave me an incredible appreciation for artists as their painstakingly crafted music resonated from a record player. Modern media has it’s advantages, but there’s nothing like the experience of holding a favourite album in your hands while you listen to the artists musical efforts emanating from a great turntable system.

After I got married, I floated from temporary job to temporary job, and actually had a music store for a few years. Then I saw an opportunity in web design and the digital network. I realized I could make a difference in sharing my passion for music and musical artists. New fans could be exposed to the vinyl experience, learn about the associated gear, and continue to appreciate the medium.

It took a lot of trial and error to get where I am today, and I’m so grateful that I get a chance to share my insights with so many people. In the years since we started, my team and I have helped thousands of aficionados learn more about the intricacies of audio reproduction, album collecting and progress towards building their own musical libraries.

Today’s modern lifestyle is filled with an insane amount of distractions based on instant gratification and unhealthy choices. Music helps to keep us grounded and filter the right noise.

Facts:

“Music is fundamental to our species, perhaps even more so than language.”
Dr. Daniel J. Levitin

“Music is your own experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn.”
Charlie Parker

Music also reduces stress and anxiety, decreases pain, can improve immune functioning, improves memory, cultivates social skills, and helps us exercise. Just to name a few.

Given that there is so much information out there with regards to the benefits of music, we at Fat City Turntables have set out some clear principles that we strive to abide by.

This is so we can provide you with a single place to get the turntable and record player advice, without all the confusion that you might find elsewhere.
